BSNL launched ‘Choose Your Mobile Number ‘ plan  across the country which would provide a new customer with vast range of over one lakh numbers to choose from.Under which prospective customers would be able to choose any number, sans any extra cost, from a list of about 100,000 numbers that will be made available on its website – www.ap.bsnl.co.in. BSNL’s  choose your mobile number scheme, procedure is through online or through SMS will very soon be available across all the circles. So far, the service is available only in Andhra Pradesh circle where it was launched last month. With choose your mobile number scheme, customers can choose the numbers through BSNL website or SMS or from any retailer from the pool of numbers.

“After selecting the number of his choice, the customer will receive a PIN number on his mobile. The selected number will be reserved for 48 hours and will no longer be visible for further selection,” Rajeev Agarwal, chief general manager of BSNL-AP circle, told media persons here. Customers need to approach a customer service centre or a retailer with the PIN number, who will provide him with the same number. Customers can reserve a maximum of two numbers, and the list will be updated every day or even at a higher frequency, to ensure that additional numbers are added to make 100,000 numbers available every day with the customers to choose from. “Besides, it increases the loyalty of the customers to BSNL as the number is taken on his choice. We will set targets for the scheme after watching the initial response.

The scheme provides access through broadband and also through SMS. Customers can log on to the BSNL website and click on `choose your mobile number’ option. Those who do not have broadband connection may opt for SMS option through which they will get ten numbers on mobile from which they can choose desired number.
The scheme was first launched in Andhra Pradesh on November 1 and it received very good response. The sale of mobile connections under this scheme has crossed 1.2 lakh.
BSNL Chairman and Managing Director R K Upadhyay said:
“Enthused by the success of the scheme in Andhra Pradesh, BSNL has now decided to launch the scheme all over the country. BSNL will set targets for the scheme after watching the initial response. We expect that the scheme will attract more than 20 lakh new subscribers.
