Spectranet Partners With Aircel to provide wifi servicesSpectranet, a next-gen cloud-based services provides has partnered with Aircel to offer high speed Internet access to Aircel customers on WiFi. Spectranet Wi-Fi service can be accessed by Aircel subscribers on all kinds of Wi-Fi enabled devices including mobile phones, laptops and tablets.

Aircel subscribers can access the Wi-Fi services by latching onto the “aircel_spectranet” SSID and following a simple two-step registration process. Spectranet has deployed Wi-Fi network at over 1000 hot-spots across six metros Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad. Aircel to launch 3G services before World CupMobile Service Provider, Aircel is planning to launch its 3G services in India before the start of World Cup. World Cup is scheduled to begin on February 19. Aircel chief operating officer Gurudeep Singh said on Thursday.

Aircel is aiming to launch its 3G services across in all 13 circles. Aircel also has Broadband Wireless Internet (BWI) license for 8 circles. Aircel is still evaluating which technology to use for offering there services, WiMax or LTE.

“We are poised for a data usage explosion in this country, as broadband can only reach the masses with wireless,” he said. He admitted however, that 3G set ownership among customers were still in the low single digit percentage. (more…)
