WiMax broadband revolution in India needs development support

WiMax, The Next level of wireless broadband Technology was today discussed by Industry leaders in 7th WiMAX INDIA 2010 conference in Delhi organized by Bharat Exhibitions. The recent WiMax spectrum auction has fetched the Government 8.56 billion USD. Operators are planning a rapid roll out to gain early mover advantage in a market said to be all waiting for this wireless broad band access technology.
Current developments in the WiMax technologies are offering mobile personal broadband users to create whatever they want on a variety of devices from the laptop to cell phones making a huge difference to user experience. Said, Dr. Hung Song, vice-president of global electronics major Samsung displayed several tiny modems that could transform laptops, cell phones and other knowledge devices to wireless mode connecting to Internet through WiMax points. Bsnl introduces EVDO WiMax services in Mizoram
3Sachin Pilot, The Union Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology , has launched EVDO technology based wireless broadband services in Mizoram at Aizawl and also announced the introduction of WiMax based broadband services in the state.
EVDO customers can have the roaming facility as well. Easy to use USB EVDO modems will give a comfortable Broadband experience. EVDO USB Modems are priced at Rs.2500 each. Customers have the option to take the USB EVDO modem on hire , instead of purchasing outright, at a monthly payment of Rs.200. Unlimited BB access through EVDO is offered at a fixed monthly charge of Rs.750/-. Prepaid BB access will also be available shortly. The prepaid account will be offered to the customer with an initial usage value worth Rs.399.00. Access charges over prepaid are 5 paisa per 100KB ( 7AM to 11PM) and 2.5 paisa per 100KB ( 11PM to 7AM). (more…)
275 Million High speed Broadband Users in India By 2015

According to a report by ASSOCHAM, the High-speed broadband subscriber base in India is likely to grow up to 275 million from current 9 million by the next five years (2015), as telecom firms will roll out Broadband Wireless Acess (BWA) air waves that were auctioned in June.

BWA spectrum enables high-speed Internet access as well as Internet telephony and TV services. It can also be used for voice and high-speed data services.
MTNL to buy Internet bandwidth for international traffic

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. ( MTNL ), which is one of the Top Internet Service provider ( ISP ) in India wants to buy Extra Internet bandwidth for international traffic from Bharti Airtel Ltd. and Tata Communications Ltd.
As par a notice on MTNL’s website, “Bharti Airtel will sell 10,710 million bits per second of bandwidth for MTNL’s Delhi operations and 7,000 Mbps for Mumbai whereas Tata Communications will sell 4,590 Mbps for MTNL’s Delhi services and 3,000 Mbps for its Mumbai operations.”
According to MTNL both companies will sell the Bandwidth at INR 1,614 per Mbps for Delhi whereas in Mumbai it is INR 1,586 per Mbps without 10.3% service tax. (more…)
BSNL launches India’s first urban mobile WiMAX in kerala
2Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has commercially launched on Saturday India’s first mobile broadband fourth generation (4g) Internet access network “Mobile WiMAX” in Ernakulam (Kerala). WiMAX provides features like high speed broad band connectivity anywhere, anytime for devices like Desktop, Laptop on wireless.
Launched by K V Thomas Union minister of state for Agriculture and Consumer Affairs BSNL became first operator in the country to launch commercial mobile WiMax service, for which technical support is being provided by Aviat Networks. “In the initial phase, 450 base stations will be set up across the state at a cost of Rs 100 crore, which will cover all the major cities and district headquarters. In the second phase, another 450 BTS would be commissioned to cover the remaining towns.
WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) technology is a cost effective broadband technology and can deliver a speed of up to 37 mbps, Initially its available in two plans - Home Plan with a fixed monthly charge of Rs 999 while the Business plan is Rs 1,999 for a band width 512 to 2 mbps.
