China Telecom aims to get 35 million 3G users by 2011China Telecom Corporation is expecting to get a boost in its 3G users by end of 2011, out of which 10 million could be 3G smart phone users, Wang Xiaochu, chairman and chief executive officer of the company, said on Tuesday.

Total no. of China Telecom subscribers reached 93 million by the end of 2010, which is 34 million increase from 2009. The company did not reveal the exact number of current 3G users, but industry analysts said the figure probably surpassed 11 million by the end of last year

“We expect China Telecom will have more than 100 million subscribers by the first quarter of this year. The number of newly added mobile phone users will surpass that of 2010,” Wang said at a industry conference in Beijing. (more…)

Bharti Airtel Launches Direct Terrestrial link Between India, ChinaBharti Airtel in association with China Telecom has set up a direct terrestrial underground link between India and China. This network will provide seamless connectivity to customers from India or China.

In India, the Bharti Airtel’s high-speed network will span from Siliguri in west Bengal to Nathula in Sikkim via Pedong on one way and the second path will reach Siliguri from Nathula via Gangtok, thus forming a ring like structure.

This network will address the surging international traffic and diversity requirements of both the nations,’ the company said in a statement. ‘It will offer the shortest alternate route between India and China alongside the existing sub-sea routes,’ it added.

‘The launch of India-China link further strengthens our commitment to create state-of-the-art network for our customers through innovation and connects two fastest growing economies of the world on a low latency path,’ said Ajay Chitkara, Bharti Airtel’s chief executive officer for global data business. China 3G Subscribers Reach 39 Mln; 295.7 % rise Over last Year

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has revealed that as of the end of October 2010, China had reached 38.64 mln 3G mobile subscribers which is 295.7 rise ( almost 3 times ) from last year. The number of 3G users of each of China’s top three telecommunication operators, China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom, exceeded 10 million by the end of October, the MIIT data showed.

Out of total 39 miln user, 10 mln were China Telecom CDMA2000 EV-DO subscribers, 16.98 mln were China Mobile TD-SCDMA subscribers, and 11.66 mln were China Unicom WCDMA subscribers. TD-SCDMA users accounted for 43.9% of total 3G subscribers, with the total number of new 3G users in 2010 to date reaching 25.38 mln. (more…)

China plans to invest USD 18 billion 3G services in 2010


China, World’s Biggest Telecom Market now plans to invest about USD 18 billion in 3G data services in 2010 as the country became the home to the largest telephone network in the world, with total number of phone users crossing 1.1 billion, including 800 million mobile users. The 3G services allow for video calls between 3G subscribers, and television and Internet access. It would allow users to make telephone calls, surf the Internet and watch television through a singe cable or wireless entrance.

China’s third-generation (3G) mobile phone service subscribers went up by 40 per cent, totaling 25.2 million subscribers at the end of June, Zhang Feng, an official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said today. (more…)
