MTNL JNU signs MoU on cheap 3G Services for Students

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) and Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of Minister of state for Communications and Information Technology “Sachin Pilot” and B.B. Bhattacharya, Vice-Chancellor, JNU under which MTNL will be a preferred Telecom Service Provider for university
According to Sachin Pilot , “Considering that JNU is a premier institute in the country, MTNL has offered to facilitate the students of the University to access the Local Area Network (LAN) of JNU using MTNL 3G network.” Under this agreement, JNU students would be charged just Rs.199 per month for using the MTNL 3G network , instead of the normal fee of Rs.599. MTNL users in JNU would also be able to make free calls to each other. MTNL has also set up four additional 3G towers on the campus to ensure good coverage and service quality. More >
Bsnl aims for broadband in every Indian village Sachin Pilot

India is charting a grand scheme targeting its rural outback to reach telecom and broadband services to each of its 626,000 villages, using funds to the tune of $3.5 billion lying unutilised in a dedicated fund. Outlining the contours of this ambitious programme, Minister of State for Communications and IT Sachin Pilot told in an interaction that 11,000 communication towers will be set up for the purpose, several in villages bordering Bangladesh and Pakistan.
“We are close to launching a programme of putting up these towers in villages where the population is less than 500 people and sometimes less than 200. It will be deployed by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd,” said the minister.
“You will hear more on this very soon.” He said all service providers – private or state-run – have been allowed to install telecom towers to receive signals within 500 metres near the international borders to strengthen the existing communication system in rural areas.
According to Mr. Pilot, many of the towers will be in the tribal belts of Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram and Assam in the northeast, as the government’s priority, as opposed to that of private players, was to get villages into the telecom loop as well.
BSNL WiMax services to be expand in NCR from april

According to a statement, issed by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Indian government, Bsnl’s WiMax services will be expanded in Greater Noida this month. Speaking at a press conference in Noida, the Minister of State for Communications and IT Shri Sachin Pilot said that BSNL’s WiMax services will be launched in the Greater Noida area of Dhankot soon. It will be extended to the other parts of the region such as Bisrakh, Dadri, Jewar and Jahangirpuri April onwards with access speed up to 7 Mbps .
The expected growth is Over 40,000 mobile subscribers in Noida and Greater Noida areas till March 2011. Speaking to the press after reviewing the quality service by BSNL and MTNL in Noida and Greater Noida, Pilot assured that special steps would be taken to ensure that downtime of towers is minimized.
BSNL WiMAX high speed wireless broadband connectivity aimed to provide video telephony, TV on mobile, video-conferencing, e-learning, tele-medicine service and tele-education, besides providing some other services through local administrative body also.
