Bundling of Telecom Services- Challenges to Growth

Low Broadband PenetrationMost of the Indian operators offer multiple services but the truly bundled offers are yet to take up. There are several factors that lead to this performance gap, a few of which are:

  • Broadband Penetration: Most of the Indian operators, such as Airtel, Reliance and Tata, have a very penetration of their broadband offerings. This is because their networks are based on legacy infrastructure and have low geographical coverage and legacy. Thus, their networks are currently not capable to handle trul multi-play offerings. However, once the networks of these operators have been upgraded, the consumers will witness the advent of truly converged offerings (all services on a single common back-end network) with better quality of service (QoS). TATA DOCOMO Magic SMS service; An Expression To Your SMSTata DOCOMO, the GSM brand of Tata Teleservices Limited, has launched an interesting value added service called ‘Magic SMS’, for postpaid and prepaid mobile subscribers across India. With this service, subscribers can easily convert their standard SMSes into enjoyable and attractive picture messages/MMS.

To activate Magic SMS service, subscribers can simply SMS ‘START’ to ‘55115 for monthly subscription ( auto renewable) at Rs 30/-; SMS ‘MAG10 to 55115’ for weekly subscription ( auto renewable)  at Rs.10/- and SMS ‘MAG05 to 55115’ for daily subscription at Rs 5/- Additionally, subscribers can also subscribe the service through an USSD IVR by simply dialing *502# (Toll free) and also via Tata DOCOMO website, wherein they have to select Dive In option and then select Magic SMS from the main menu. India GSM subscribers reached 526 mn

India GSM subscribers reached 526 mn by November 2010In November 2010, Indian telecom operators added a whopping numbers of 17.45 million new users. According to the reports of Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) the total subscriber base is now increased from 508.72 million to 526.18 million by end of November,2010.

Country’s largest GSM player Bharti Airtel,added 3.10 million new users in November,taking its total subscriber base to 149.39 million and market share to 28.39%.

On the other side Vodafone Essar has added highest number of subscribers among all the service providers in the country and its total subscriber base grow to 121.16 million and market share of 23.03%. (more…)

Uninor Launches 2 New STV for Mumbai, Maharashtra and Goa

Uninor Launches Two New Minutes and Second Pack for Goa, MumbaiUninor, the GSM service provider has announced two small size tariff packs for their subscriber in Goa and Mumbai, Maharashtra.

The two small size tariff packs are for Rs, 97 and Rs. 98 respectively. On recharge for Rs. 97 customer can enjoy 300 local off net minutes and 1000 local Uninor minutes and with Rs. 98 another pack customer gets 18, 000 local off net minutes  and 60, 000 local Uninor seconds.

One upon a time these packs  costs for  Rs. 197 and Rs. 198 wherein customer gets 2000 local Uninor minutes and 700 local off net minutes on recharge with Rs. 197 and 1, 20,000 local Uninor seconds and 42,000 local off net seconds for Rs. 198,they comes with a 30 days of validity.

But, both the newly launched packs come with only 15 days of validity and with no talk time bundled with it.
