Uninor launches GPRS MMS services for pre-paid subscribersUninor the most promising Telecom brand of India today announced the launch of much awaited data services on GPRS for its pre-paid subscribers across the nine states of UP, Uttaranchal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh with Free trial offer for internet browsing. which will be available till May 6. Subsequently, data services will be available through a base plan with tariff of 10p per 10kb.

“We had stated earlier that a lot can be done using the opportunities already available on 2G platforms to offer a good quality data experience and services. We make that start today,” said David Meneghello, Executive Vice-President, Marketing at Uninor.

Initially Company has started two base GPRS plans:

myconnect 9: priced at Rs. 9 that’s valid for 3 days and allows free browsing upto 60MB.
myconnect 90: priced at Rs. 90 that’s valid for 30 days with 3GB of free browsing.

For both plans, usage beyond free data will be charged at 10p per 10kb. Both plans also allow customers free access to popular social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Linked-In.

Like all other data service Providers uninor has also started its Dedicated Wap portal named “Myuninor WAP portal” . According to uninor this portal has a simple interface with only 6 icons on the homepage with loads of content behind them. The portal loads faster and you don’t waste time and money trying to navigate to what you want.

To get Uninor GPRS settings customers will not need search for it and to send any sms. All that is done automatically for most handsets, by Uninor’s Automatic Device Setting Server, as soon as a Uninor SIM is inserted into the phone. The system detects the device make and model and automatically sends data settings to the phone. Accept and start surfing.

Regarding MMS service of uninor, David says: Most subscribers have no means to calculate this. Yet, operators bill an MMS basis how much data was transmitted. MMS’es on Uninor will be charged at a standard Rs. 5 per MMS. No ‘other’ charges that you cannot see.

So now with launch of GPRS services by uninor the ongoing GPRS tariffs war among Indian Telecom operators will going to get more severe , Indeed end users will get benefited from this.
